Kathy Nations, Community Minister

The position of Community Minister is a newly created staff position at FUMC and we happen to think that we have found the perfect person for the job. As Community Minister, Kathy’s primary role will be to serve as “Team Leader” for the Second Time Around Resale Shop (STA). Her primary objectives will be to help establish and maintain processes and procedures and to care for and recruit volunteer staff. Debbie Jones, current Director of STA, will be responsible for training Kathy and helping her establish relationships with the staff, as well as procedures that will help us reach our potential in ministry to the community. Kathy comes to us with extraordinary training and credentials, including a Master of Divinity from Perkins/SMU, as well as a passion for just this kind of ministry. Prior to seeking appointment in the UMC, Kathy served in corporate management and as a registered nurse. She begins her time with us on Sunday, June 4, and will begin training as STA Team Leader on June 22.

Kay Ash, Director of Christian Education

We are thrilled to have someone with Kay’s training and experience to continue the tradition of excellence in ministry with Children and Adults at FUMC! Following high school in the Oak Cliff area of Dallas, Kay entered conservatory studies in NYC in theater and music, after which she spent several years performing across Europe. Her performance career continued after moving back to New York, but family concerns brought her back home to Texas. Kay became heavily involved at Arapaho UMC in Richardson, eventually working her way into full-time Children’s Ministry, and brings with her over 15 years of experience as a volunteer and staff member in that field. In addition to a Master’s in Theological Studies from Perkins/SMU, Kay has completed certification studies in Children’s Ministry through the UMC and helped create “A Time for Children,” an entirely new initiative to strengthen Children’s ministries throughout the North Texas Conference. Kay begins her time with us on June 1.
